KAFUT, Bruno Paul

Bruno Paul Kafut was born on December 16th 1920 to John & Mary Magdalena [Szupta] Kafut in Hibbing, Minnesota.

Mr. Kafut was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps on July 21st 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota during WWII.

He was a telephone switchboard operator with Company B, 1721 Service Battalion Aviation, in the Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, Northern Solomons, and the Southern Philippines. He rose to the rank of Technician 5th Grade. (TEC5).

TEC5 Kafut earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 bronze battle stars,
  • Philippine Liberation Medal,  -and-
  • five overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged on November 14th 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and married Margaret [Homa] on June 19th 1948.  He was a member of VFW Post 8510.in Hibbing

Mr. Kafut died on February 26th 1996 at 75 years of age. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
