Margaret "Peggy" Minor Alvar

Peggy was born February 18, 1922, graduating from Patterson, New Jersey, Central High School in 1940. She worked at the Curtiss Wright Company until joining the Waves in 1943, training at Sampson New York and serving at the Fleet Post Office in San Francisco until September 1945 with a Petty Officer rating of Mailman 1st Class. While in the Waves, she was in charge of the Navy Code setting up mail delivery to the US Vessels throughout the Pacific area.
After marriage in San Francisco in July 1945, she and her husband Bob came to Duluth and established a company called Refrigeration Wholesalers serving as bookkeeper. She also worked in at the Van Evera Law Firm for 10 years before retirement. She was historian in Duluth's first all-women American Legion post, member of the Minnesota Historical Society, American Association of Retired Persons, YWCA swim group, and St. Lawrence Catholic Church and its OK Club.
She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Alvar.
