SLAMI, Walter Anselm

Walter Anselm Salmi was borm on January 3rd 1919 to Selmi & Mrs. [Pekkarainen] Salmi in Virginia, Minnesota.

Mr. Salmi entered the Army on June 23rd 1944 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Virginia, Minnesota. 

He served as an athletic instructor with the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment at the Moore General Hospital. He rose to the rank of Sergeant (SGT).

SGT Salmi earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • Meritorious Unit Citation,
  • American Campaign Medal,  -and-
  • World War II Victory Medal.

 

He was honorably discharged on May 16th 1946 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After the war he returned home and married Frances M.

Mr. Salmi died on February 17th 1981 at 61 years of age.
