MACASKILL, William Patrick

William Patrick Macaskill was born on July 10th 1924 to George Roderick & Dolly Bertha [Crowley] Macaskill in Duluth, Minnesota. He attended and graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1942.

After graduating high school and an Eagle Scout, Mr. Macaskill enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps on May 1st 1942. He was assigned as a paratrooper in the Pacific Theater during WWII. When he was 19 he received the Purple Heart following the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945.

Mr. Macaskill was honorable discharged on February 1st 1946. After the war, he attended St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, Loyola University and the University of Chicago. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science in philosophy and a Masters in library science. He married Noreen Ellen [Cox] and they started a family.

Mr. Macaskill died on March 1st 2007 at 82 years of age in Palo Alto, California.
