Mr. Vandenberg served in the U.S. Navy for four years and subsequently served in the Army Reserves and the Minnesota Air National Guard.

He was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on March 15, 1945, to Gerrit and Sylvia Vandenberg. He was raised in Proctor and graduated from Proctor Senior High School in 1963.

Mr. Vandenberg died at age 63 in Duluth, Minnesota, on October 27, 2008.
