FOLLAND, Raynold Oliver

Raynold Oliver Folland was born on December 14th 1922 to Oliver Torgenson & Olaug "Olive" [Reitan] Folland in Duluth, Minnesota.

Mr. Folland enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve on March 11th 1940.

He served aboard the USS Paducah (PG-18) from 1940 through 1943. The Duluth USNR divisions were activated on November 3rd 1940. He rose to the rank of Boatswain's Mate 1st Class (BM1).

Boatswain's Mate Folland was assigned to submarine patrols on the East Coast aboard the Paducah until late 1941. He went with the ship when it transfered to Norfolk, Virginia. to train gun crews for armed guard duty aboard merchant ships.

He was honorably discharged on October 1st 1945 at Minneapolis, Minnesota. After the war he returned home and married June Ann [Thompson] and they started a family.

Mr. Folland died on March 22nd 2017 at the age of 94 years. He is buried at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
