Everett "Butch" Matthew Viitala

Mr. Viitala served in the Vietnam War.  He served in the U.S. Navy from October 18, 1967, unti February 7, 1972. 

He was a hospital corpsman (HM0000) and Surgeon Mate (HM8483). He attended Naval school in San Diego, California. From August until December 1968, he served as Ward Corpsman on Ward 26-2C Plastic and Burn Reconstructive Unit.  He attended Operating Room school from December 1968 until July 1969. He was assigned to Naval Air Station TC from July 1969 until May 1970. From June 1970 until February 1972, he served as Surgeon Mate aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CVA-61).

He was honorably discharged. Mr. Viitala was born on November 12, 1949, in Virginia, Minnesota.  He grew up in Mt. Iron, Minnesota, and attended kindergarten through high school there. He graduated from high school in 1967.

Iron attending K-12, graduating in 1967. On October 18th 1967 enlisted in the US Navy. Served until 7 Feb 1972 as a Hospital corpsman HM0000 and Surgeon Mate HM8483. Schooled in San Diego California.  Served as Ward Corpsman from August of 1968 to December 1968 on Ward 26-2C Plastic and Burn Reconstructive Unit.  OR School from December 1968 to July 1969.  NAS TC from July 1969 to May 1970.  June 1970 to February 1972 served as Surgeon Mate aboard Aircraft Carrier USS Ranger CVA-61.

Discharged Honorably. Member Gulf of Tonkin Yacht Club.  VFW and Disabled American Veteran's.  Married, 3 children.  Lives in Bear River MN.
