HOGLUND, Gary William

Gary William Hoglund was born on April 11th 1943 to Justa Johanes & Lois Fay [Nelson] Hoglund in Duluth, Minnesota. He married Arnette [Davis] and they started a family.

Mr. Hoglund enlisted in the US Marine Corps on January 17th 1963 and was commissioned as a 2d Lt at Quantico VA. During the Vietnam War, he was assigned the 1st Marine Division, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, Company S. 

He was killed in action near Da Nang in Quảng Nam Province, South Vietnam on May 17th 1967. His body was recovered and was returned home. He is buried at Sunride Memorial Park Cemetery in Hermantown, Minnesota. 

He earned the following merits for his service:

  • National Defense Service Medal,
  • Vietnam Campaign Medal, 
  • Purple Heart,  -and-
  • a posthumous promotion to Captain.

 

He is also honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
