KUEFNER, John Alan

John Alan Kuefner was born on November 22nd 1948 to Eugene Adam &  Marjorie Elizabeth [Cullum] Kuefner in New York, NY. He went to East High School and then started college at the Unitversity of Minnesota.

Mr. Kuefner was inducted into the U.S. Army in January 1968. His hometown is listed as Duluth, Minnesota.

He began his tour of duty in South Vietnam on April 24th 1969 as an Infantryman. He was assigned to 37 Scout Dog Platoon, part of the Light Weapons Infantry, 82nd Airbourne Division. He rose to the rank of Corporal (CPL).

CPL Kuefner was tragically killed in action on August 14th 1969 at 21 years of age. He was killed as a result of hostile fire near the Cambodian border; Hua Nghia.

His body was recoverd and returned home. He is buried at Park Hill Cemetery in Duluth.He is also honored with his name etched into the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
