RYDER, John Leslie

John Leslie Ryder was born on July 5th 1946 to John Philip & Gwendoline Dorothy [Maiden] Ryder in Stourbridge, Worcestershire, England. The family emigrated to the Iron Range of Minnesota when he was young.

He graduated from Chisholm High School in 1964 and then graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 1968 as First Lieutenant in the US Air Force.

Mr. Ryder entered the United States Air Force on June 9th 1968. His hometown was listed as Chisholm, Minnesota.

He was part of the 7th Air Force, 504th TSG, 25th Tactical Fighter Squadron/21st Tactical Air Support Squadron. He disappeared on a visual reconnaissance mission over Military Region 2 - Kontum Province, South Vietnam.

Captain Ryder was a pilot of a 01F Spotter craft and was listed MIA June 2nd 1970. His aircraft was located in Pleiku, South Vietnam with a possible loss of life of two. He postumously given the rank of Captain. 

He was provided a memorial burial at the U.S. Air Force Academy Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His name is also etched in the Punchbowl Cemetery in Honolulu, Hawaii and the Vietnam War Memorial Wall in Washington DC.
