John Robert Serio

John's story was told by his wife, Joetta Serio.

John entered the Marines in 1960, and served as a Sgt. Major in the 1st Marine Division.

John served as an airplane mechanic and crew chief during Vietnam from 1968-1969.  Joetta reported that John was responsible for flying sorites over the entire area, sometimes to Thailand and Cambodia.  He even piloted the planes when there were not enough pilots available.

After returning from Vietnam, John spent 1970 - 1972 at Paris Island, South Carolina, then went on to Quantico, Virginia from 1972 - 1975.  He served overseas again from 1976 - 1977 in Okinawa, Japan.  John returned to the United States in 1977, and was stationed in Northbrook, Illinois.  Finally, he transferred to 29 Palms, California, and served as a staff adjutent until he separated from the Marines in 1985.
