MAKI, Roger Lee

Roger Lee Maki was born on was born on March 2nd 1947 to Leo Eugene & elma Irene [Into] Maki in Duluth, Minnesota.

Mr. Maki enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 18th 1969 via the selective service during the Vietnam War. He rose to the rank of Specialist 5th Class (SP5).

Specialist Maki was assigned to Company HHB, 1st Battalion, 321st Artillery of the 101st Airborne Division. His tour of Vietnam began on February 16th 1970.

Specialist Maki was killed in action on February 21st 1971 in the Quang Tri Province of South Vietnam. He was hit by hostile artillery/rocket/mortar fire. His remains were recovered.

SPC Maki earned the follwoing merits for his service:

  • National Service Defense Medal,
  • Vietnam Service Medal,
  • Vietnam Defense Medal,  -and-
  • Purple Heart.

 

Mr. Maki was buried at Park Hill Cemetery in Duluth, Minnesota. He is also honored with his name etched in the wall of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC.
