MELANDER, Albin Reinhold

Albin Reinhold Melander was born on July 16th 1894 to August Hansson & Cecilia [Anderson-Pehrsson] Melander in Duluth, Minnesota. He went to college at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities.

Mr. Melander registered for military service on June 5th 1917 on the UoM campus during World War 1. He was a part of the U.S. Army's 447th Engineer Depot Attachment. He returned home after the war.

PVT Melander married Florence K. [Knox] on May 23rd 1925 and they started a family. He became a nationally recognized architect designing most of the buildings on the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) campus as well as many prominent buildings in the Duluth and northeastern Minnesota area.

Mr. Melander also registered for WWII, though no record of him being called again to military service, at 47 years old, existis. He had a brother who also served during WWI, Oscar August Melander, He was a member of the Veterans Memorial Hall (VMH) program.

Mr. Melander died on April 15th 1979 at 84 years of age in Duluth. He is buried at Park Hill Cemetery in Duluth.
