Adolph Lloyd Gerner

Adolph Lloyd Gerner served during World War II the U.S. Army beginning in April 16, 1941.

He was sent to Kansas City to specialize in communications and there he learned International Morse Code.

He was assigned to the newly formed 791st Railroad Operating Battalion. The battalion was sent with four other battalions to Bombay, India or Iran. The 791st Railroad Operating Battalion was sent to Andmish, Iran to provide services for the railroad that carried supplies from the Persian Gulf and Suez Canal across Iran to the Caspian Sea to the port of Murmansk in the northern part of Russia.

He was honorably discharged from the Army on October 16, 1945. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Mr. Gerner was born in Hitterdah, Minnesota in August of 1917. He is the son of Adolph and Bessie Gerner. He graduated from Hitterdah High School in 1936.
