Albert Arnold Peltonen

PELTONEN, Albert Arnold

Albert Arnold Peltonen was born on September 14th 1918 to Jacob & Hilma [Kontio] Pletonen in in Alango, Minnesota.

Mr. Peltonen was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 27th 1942; his home was listed as Angora, Minnesota.

He was a heavy mortar crewman with Company H, 60th Infantry Regiment, serving in French Morocco and Tunisia in North Africa, Sicily, the Rhineland and northern France. He rose to the rank of Corporal (CPL).

CPL Peltonen earned the following merits for his service:

  • Combat Infantryman Badge,
  • Distinguished Unit Citation,
  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with six bronze battle stars,
  • World War II Victory Medal,  -and-
  • four overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged on November 26th 1945.

Mr. Peltonen died on November 20th 1971 at 53 years of age in Virginia, Minnesota. He is buried at Alango Cemetery in Angora, Minnesota.
