ZAVERL, Albin Michael

Albin Michael Zaverl was born May 21st 1920, in Ely, Minnesota, the son of Austrian immigrants John & Jozefa Zaverl. He graduated from Ely Memorial High School in 1938.

Mr. Zaverl.entered the U.S. Army Air Corps on October 11th 1941, at Fort Snelling, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He served as a health inspector, and had medical duties with Headquarters Detachment of the 311th Fighter Squadron of the 15th Air Force in the China-Burma-India Theater. He rose to the rank of  Staff Sergeant (SSGT)

From Calcutta, India, SGT Zaverl took the rail to Tinsukia, India, where he flew over the Hump in a C-46 to Kunming, Liangshan, Sian, and Shanghai, China.

He was honorably discharged on January 28th 1946, in Seattle, Washington. After the war he returned home and married Arlene [Dougherty] on October 3rd 1963.

Mr. Zaverl died on April 5th 2016 at 95 years of age in Eveleth, Minnesota. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Virginia, Minnesota.
