He left with the 125th in 1941 at the age 16. He served in Tunisia, Anzio, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and Po Valley, Italy.

Mr. Guzzo was awarded the: Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Medical Badge, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and six overseas service bars.

He was honorably discharged June 25, 1945 at Fort Snelling, Minn.

From the Bronze Star citation: "For heroic achievment in action on 29 November, 1943, in the vicinity of Scapoli, Italy. The battery, to which Cpl. Guzzo was attached as medical aid man, was under continuous heavy shelling from medium and light guns from 1045 hours to 1130 hours. At 1050 hours a tree burst resulted in nine casualties and started a fire in the gun pit which threatened to ignite the 105mm ammunition in the pit. Cpl. Guzzo, with utter disregard for his own personal safety, moved across open ground where enemy shells were detonationing to render aid to wounded men. Completely oblivious of enemy shells and intense fire, Cpl. Guzzo worked until all the wounded men were aided. After rendering aid, he assisted as stretcher bearer in removing the men to an evacuation point over open ground which was under heavy enemy artillery fire. Cpl. Guzzo's courage and devotion to duty in the face of grave danger were exemplary and a source of inspiration to his fellow comarades."
