ONGALO, Arne Armas

Arne Armas Ongalo was born on February 25th 1911 to John P. & Maria "Ame" Ongalo in Cook, Minnesota.

Mr. Ongalo was inducted into the U.S. Army on April 30th 1942 during WWII. Home at entry: Angora, Minnesota. Before going off to war he married Signe Marie [Laakkonen].

He was a power generator operator with the 400th Engineer Maintenance Company, serving in the Rome-Arno campaign in Italy. He rose to the rank of Technician 5th Grade (TEC4).

TEC Ongalo earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with a bronze battle star,  -and-
  • World War II Victory Medal.

 

He was honorably discharged on July 21st 1945. After the war he returned home to his wife and they started a family.

Mr. Ongalo died on August 9th 1953 at 42 years of age. He is buried at Alango Cemetery in Angora, Minnesota.
