Arne H. Jaaskelainen was drafted into the Army in April 1942 as a member of the Headquarters Company, 23rd Infantry.

He received his certification in Wire Communications on November 7, 1942 for the Second Infantry Division Communication School in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was shipped overseas in September 1943.

While engaged in combat with the enemy he was seriously wounded on August 29, 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. He died from these wounds on September 7, 1944 at the age of 25.

His remains were interred in the US Military Cemetery, St. James, France. His remains were eventually shipped back to the US in June 1948 with burial at Palmers Cemetery.

Mr. Jaaskelainen was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star medal for heroic achievement with military operations against the enemy, and the Purple Heart.
