CHERRO, Arthur John

Arthur John Cherro was born on February 13th 1924 to Raefel & Mary Cherro in Aurora, Minnesota.

Mr. Cherro registered for military service on June 30th 1942. He entered the U.S. Army on August 11th 1943 at Fort Snelling, Minneapolis, Minnesota during WWII. 

He served as a gun crewman in an Anti-tank Company of the 70th Infantry Division in the Rhineland and Central Europe. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).

PFC Cherro earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • Combat Inffantryman Badge,
  • American Campaign Medal,
  • European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze battle stars,  -and-
  • two overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged April 29th 1946 from Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.After the war he returned home and married Congetta "Connie" Marie [Simone] and they started a family.

Mr. Cherro died on April 16th 2000 at 76 years of age. He is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora.
