Axel C. Kangas of Hibbing, Minnesota was inducted into the Army on September 2, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minn.

He was a Private First Class and served as a medical aid man with the 492nd Medical Collecting Company in Northern France and in the Rhineland. He was wounded in action in October of 1944, and convalesced in England.

Mr. Kangas received the: Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with two bronze battle stars and bronze arrowhead, American Campaign Medal, and two overseas service bars.

He was honorably discharged on November 12, 1945.
