JAKUBEK, Benjamin

Benjamin Jakubek was born on August 16th 1923 to John & Anna [Hanz] Jakubek in Duluth, Minnesota..

Mr. Jakubek was inducted into the Army on December 10th 1943 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

He served as a cannoneer with Battery A of the 413 AFA Battalion and 24th Armored Division. He fought in the Battle of Bulge in Central Europe. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).

PFC Jakubek earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star,
  • American Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany),
  • World War II Victory Medal,  -and-
  • one overseas service bar.

 

He was honorably discharged on April 20th 1946 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

Mr. Jakubek died on April 13th 1999 at the age of 76 years. He is buried at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery in Hermantown, Minnesota.

"Five sons of Mrs. Anna Jakubek, route 4, box 565, Duluth, Minnesota are in service.

"Cpl. Samuel Jakubek, Army medical corps, whose wife lives at 428 North Seventh Avenue East is in New Guinea.

"Pvt. Benjamin, field artillery, is at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. His wife resides at 338 South First Avenue East.

"Pvt. Chester, Army Infantry, is at Camp Fannin, Texas.

"Pvt. Frank, whose wife lives at 274 South First Avenue East is at Fort Benning, Georgia, with the field artillery.

 "Pvt William, whose wife lives at 228 Eighth Avenue East. is at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri "
