Bernard Ambrose Zylka

Bernard A. Zylka enlisted in the Army on October 26, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota.

He served as a Private First Class in the European Theater.

Mr. Zylka shared the following: "I was sent to Africa in April 1943 to General Patton's Fist Armored Division at Kasserine Pass. Came in on D-Day at Gela, Sicily, with General Patton, then to Italy. I participated in the D-Day landing at St. Tropez, Southern France, then to Luxembourg, Holland, Austria, and Germany."

He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze battle stars and bronze arrowhead, and World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Zylka was honorably discharged on November 20, 1945, at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
