Charles F. Meyer of Duluth, Minnesota was enlisted in the Naval Reserve on March 24, 1944.

He was a Seaman 1st Class on the destroyer USS Bullard (DD 660) in the Pacific Theater.

He participated in picket duty between the main fleet and Japan in 1945 and the first naval bombardment of the Japanese home islands. "Worst time at sea included being attacked by kamikaze planes, a typhoon at Okinawa and going through a mined area near Japan (turned out to be a giant jellyfish beneath the surface)."

He was discharged on May 10, 1946.
