He served as a Corporal and military policeman with the 1274th Military Police Company.

He recalls; "I preferred to be a mechanic but was assigned a military policeman....Shipped to England in March 1944. Our main mission at Mt. Farm air base was security. At one time, I guarded General Elliot Roosevelt [FDR's son] from a possible assassination attempt by the Germans. My brothers Bill, Stanley and I had a reunion in England. Instead of going to Japan, I was discharged because the war in Japan was over."

He was discharged from the service on November 15, 1945.
