LINDQUIST, Clarence James

Clarence James Lindquist was born in Maywood, Illinois on May 12th 1924 and is the son of Clarence Gustav & Doraliska [Cranton] Lindquist. He graduated from high school in 1943 and attended two years of junior college.

Mr. Lindquist joined the Army National Guard, and then the Minnesota Army National Guard in 1941. Mr. Lindquist served in World War II with the U.S. Army beginning on March 6th 1943 and was assigned to C Company 109th Medical Battalion 34th Infantry Division in Africa and Italy.

PVT Lindquist was assigned as a litter bearer, then an assistant ambulance driver and was eventually promoted to 1st ambulance driver for the 168th Infantry Regiment. This included 3 Battalions, Aide Stations, Regimental Aid Stations, and C Company 109th Medical Battalion.

Now PFC, Lindquist took the wounded from all combat units. He also attended to British, German and other wounded soldiers. He participated in the battles at Casino and Anzio in Rome, the Rome-Arno Campaign, North Apennines Campaign, and PO River Valley Campaign.

He was honorably discharged on November 30th 1945. He retired with the rank of Chief Warrant 0fficer 4 (CW4). He was decorated with two Bronze Stars and the Combat Medical Badge.

After the war, he returned home to Duluth, married Kathleen L. [Bakken], and started a family.

Mr. Lindquist died on June 2nd 2017 at the age of 93 years old. He was buried at Park Hill Cemetery in Hermantown, Minnesota.
