OKSTAD Sr., Clayton Wallace

Clayton Wallace Okstad Sr. was born on October 13th 1925 in Fosston (Gully), Minnesota, the son of Sigurd & Mabel Okstad.

Mr. Okstad joined the U.S. Army on January 3rd 1943 and served in World War II in the European Theater. He was assigned to the 127th Bomb Disposal Squad serving in Normandy, France in September 1944 and in the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He rose to the rank of Sergeant (SGT).

SGT Okstad earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with 4 bronze battle stars,
  • American Campaign Service Medal,  -and-
  • the World War II Victory Medal.

 

He was honorably discharged on February 10th 1946.

Mr. Okstad died on December 31st 2018 in Aurora, Minnesota at the age of 93 years. He is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in Aurora.

Original entry on VMH website: Clayton W. Okstad, Sr., of Proctor, Minnesota, was inducted into the Army on December 10, 1943. He was a Sergeant with the 127th Ordnance Bomb Disposal Squad. He arrived at Normandy in September 1944 and served in northern France, the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with four bronze battle stars, American Campaign Service Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He was discharged on February 10, 1946.
