TINI, Dante Sylvester

Dante Sylvester Tini was born on July 25th 1922 to Daniel & Rachel Tini in Virginia, Minnesota.

Mr. Tini enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 14th 1940. Home at entry: Virginia, Minnesota.

He went on duty aboard the battleship USS Oklahoma on October 12th 1940 and served as a Radioman 3rd Class.

Mr. Tini was killed in action on December 7th 1941 during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The USS Oklahoma was torpedoed and the ship capsized. Dante and 428 other sailors perished.

Dante was 19 years old and was postumously awarded the Purple Heart. However his remains were never accounted for and his status was 'non-recoverable.' The family had to live with that 'non-closure' for 77 years.

On August 13th 2018 Dante's remains were finially accounted for through DNA testing with known family decendents. His remains were flown back to Minnesota and brought home to Virginia for re-interment on May 25th 2019.
