David M. Sheldon

David M. Sheldon entered active duty in the Army on April 7, 1941. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.

He attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1942.

He served with the Seventh Engineers of the 852nd Engineer (Combat) Battalion in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. His unit constructed the POW camp, and was responsible for 250 German prisoners of war, at Nordholtz, Germany, on the North Sea.

Mr. Sheldon was awarded the following: European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze battle stars, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.

He was released from active duty as a Captain on March 28, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
