Dr. Arko entered Active Army duty August 4, 1942. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.

Commissioned Captain in the Medical Corps, otorhinolaryngologist, with the 23rd Medical Hospital Ship Platoon. Made nine trips to the European theater aboard a hospital ship: first left the United States on May 1943, and for the last time on July 24, 1945.

Awarded: American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze star, World War II Victory Medal.

Relieved from active duty November 18, 1945, at Camp McCoy Wisconsin.
