Frances Cohenour

Frances R. Eby (nee Cohenour) was commissioned as a2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps on Aug. 24, 1944.

She served as an orthopedic nurse assigned to the 74th Field Hospital with a group of 18 nurses, 22 other officers and 100 enlisted men.

They left Seattle in a convoy in December for Hawaii. Nurses only were sent to Saipan in the Mariannas for three months, then to Buckner Bay, Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, where the rest of group rejoined them.

During a typhoon she placed critical patients in ambulances and others in a metal quonst surgery hut. She remained on Okinawa with the 74th and 69th Field Hospitals until the war ended in 1945.

She was honorablydischarged on Feb. 28, 1946.
