MICHELIZZI Frank James

Frank James Michelizzi was born on December 18th 1922 to Michelangelo V. & Carmella [Condoluci] Michelizzi in Duluth, Minnesota. He went to Duluth Cathedral High School.

Mr. Michelizzi entered the U.S. Army July 7th 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota. 

He served as an infantryman and a combat engineer. He rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant. (TSGT).

SGT Michelizzi shared the following: "I received my basic infantryman training at Camp Roberts, California, and was then sent to Fort Ord Troop Replacement center. I remained there until I was discharged. I was prepared to go overseas at any time."

"There were four of us from my family in the service during World War II. Two brothers were in the European Theater, both in the Army. The third was in the Pacific Theater in the Navy. My brothers were Patrick, Rokie, and Sam."

SGT Michelizzi earned the following merits for his service:

  • American Theater Service Medal,  -and-
  • Good Conduct Medal.

 

He was honorably discharged on February 12th 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and married Gloria Leilani [Glatzmaier] on June 25th 1955 and they started a family.

Mr. Michelizzi died on November 15th 2018 at 95 years of age in Duluth. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Duluth.
