JANESICH, Frank

Frank Janesich was born on July 21st 1909 to Anton Joseph & Cecilia [Ule] Janesich in Gladstone, Michigan. The family moved to Chisholm, Minnesota.

Mr. Janesich was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Forces on July 22nd 1942 during WWII. He was a pilot with the US Army Air Forces. He rose to the rank of Sergeant (SGT).

SGT Janesich was on the troop transport ship HMT Rohna when it hit and sunk on November 27th 1943 by a German guided missile in the Mediterranian Sea off the Algerian coast. He is listed as Missing In Action (MIA) and presumed dead.

His older brother Ludwig Joseph Janesich also served in the Army during WWII.

Mr. Janesich  is recorded as died on November 27th 1943 at 44 years of age. There is a memorial to the sinking of the Rohna was unveiled at the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Seale, Alabama in 1996.
