I served aboard the U.S.S. Prince William, an escort carrier that ferried Army aircraft to French Morocco in North Africa for the African Campaign. I also served on the destroyer escort U.S.S. Smart and made 12 trips escorting large fleets of liberty cargo ships to Oran, French Morocco, in North Africa. I also went to the Motor Torpedo Boat training service, but on the way to the Pacific Theater, the boats were being phased out, and I wound up on the carrier. I served 29 months at seat, Atlantic and Pacific.
