George C. "Pop" Couture

George C. Couture, Sr. of Duluth, Minnesota entered the Naval Reserve on July 3, 1943.

He served at the rank/rate of boatswain''s mate 2nd class in the Pacific Theater. He served with the Marine Corps beachmasters as a boat coxswain piloting small boats with wounded from shore during the Saipan and Okinawa landings. He was nicknamed "Pop" by shipmates, because he was nearly 30 years old.

He was honorably discharged on Oct. 2, 1945.
