GREGORICH, George Thomas

George Thomas Gregorich is the son of Thomas & Marija "Mary" [Rikel] Gregorich. He was born on July 28th 1920 in Duluth, Minnesota. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1938.

Mr. Gregorich served in World War II in the South Pacific. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

SGT Gregorich was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 14, 1942. He went to Camp Crowder, Missouri, for basic training. He studied Typing and Morse code at Tyler Commercial College in Tyler, Texas. He was subsequently assigned to the Signal Corps Headquarters Company, 3119th Signal Service Battalion, stationed in New Caledonia, where he stayed for approximately three years.

SGT Gregorich was discharged on November 19, 1945. After the war he returned home and married Lavone and they started a family.

Mr. Gregorich died on February 2nd 2018 at the age of 97 years. He is buried at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Duluth, Minnesota.

“Basic training, Camp Crowder, Missouri. Typing and Morse code training, Tyler Commercial College, Tyler, Texas. Camp Beal, Marysville, California. Nearly three years on island of New Caledonia, South Pacific. Worked in fixed radio station. Slept in a tent for the duration.

“Glad to have served—would do it again—God bless America. My five sons have all served in the military. Also, two grandsons now serving.”
