Harold Ebel

Harold Ebel served during World War II in the U.S. Navy beginning on March 3, 1942.

He was assigned to the USS Arkansas (BB-33) in the North Pacific. He was discharged from the service on March 14, 1946. He held the rank of Fire Control Man 2nd Class (FC2) and Ensign (ENS).

Mr. Ebel was born in September of 1921 in Lidgerwood, North Dakota, and is the son of Paul and Ella Ebel. He graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1939 and received a Master of Science from the University of Iowa in 1951.

"I decided to enlist in the Navy after Pearl Harbor was bombed. I served on the USS Arkansas (BB-33) for two years. We took three convoys to Casablanca, one convoy to Ireland, and one convoy to Scotland. I was then commissioned as an Ensign at the U.S. Naval Reserve Midshipmen School at University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana. I served the remainder of my tour on the destroyer USS Woodworth (DD-460)."
