Harry J. Digerness

Harry J. Digerness entered the Navy in September 1944.

He served as a Shipfitter 3rd Class and equipment operator with the 27th Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands in the Pacific Theater.

"The dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima meant an end to a war, which otherwise would have included a bloody invasion of Japan," he said.

He was separated in June 1946.
