MARKLAND, Henry Wallace

Henry Wallace Markland was born on September 2nd 1917 to Hervy Allen & Johanna R [Lindgren] Markland in Grygla, Minnesota. Before entering the service he married Viola [Pajunen] in 1941 in Hibbing, Minnesota.

Mr. Markland enlisted in the U.S. Army November 8th 1939; he was assigned to the Army Air Corps on July 27th 1940. He was a training officer in Flying Cadet Detachment A C Randolph Field in San Antonio, Texas during WWII. He rose to the rank of a Lieutenant Colonel (LTC)

COL Markland received the American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

After the war he returned home to his wife in Hibbing.

Mr. Markland died on May 29th 1988 at 70 years of age in Hibbing. He is buring at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.

He was relieved from active duty on June 3rd 1946 at Maxwell AFB, Alabama.
