GUNDY, Horace Roger

Horace Roger Gundy was born on Septmber 16th 1916 to Edward Louis &  Grace Adelaide [Adams] Gundy in Buhl, Minnesota.

Mr. Gundy was inducted into the Army Air Corps March 20th 1943, Fort Snelling, Minnesota during WWII.

He served with the 19th Bomb Group of the 314th Bomb Wing stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Salt Lake City. His unit was assigned to Alaska to the Japan Air Offensive of the Aleutian Islands. He rose to the rank of Sergeant (SGT).

SGT Gundy earned the following merits for his service:

  • Bronze Star Medal,
  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • American Campaign Medal,
  • Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal,  -and-
  • one overseas service bar. 

 

He was honorably discharged December 12th 1945, Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and married Dorothy Mae [Sargent] and they atarted a family.

Mr. Gundy died on October 17th 1964 at 52 years of age. He is buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Buhl, Minnesota.
