Howard "Babe" Peter Matheson

Mr. Matheson served during World War II and the Korean War.

He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine (which served as an auxiliary to the Navy during wartime) from 1943 until 1945, at which time he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Army Security Agency (ASA) in Virginia until 1946 when he returned to civilian life.

He was recalled into the Army in 1950 during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan until August 1952.

Mr. Matheson was born on July 8, 1925, in Sidewoods, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Julia (Nelson) and Otto Matheson. He graduated from Superior Central High School in 1943.

He died at age 82 in Duluth, Minnesota, on April 18, 2008.
