MAINERICH, John Jean

John Jean Mainerich was born on May 14th 1916 to Matija & Frances   Mainerich in Ironton, Minnesota.

Mr. Mainerich enlisted for the U.S. Army on Spetember 10th 1942. He entered service on September 23rd 1942. Home at entry: Chisholm, Minnesota.

He served as a heavy machine gunner with Company C of the 850th Engineer Aviation Battalion in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He rose to the rank of Corporal (CPL).

CPL Mainerich earned the following merits for his service:

  • European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 bronze battle stars,  -and-
  • World War II Victory Medal.

 

He was honorably discharged on November 14th 1945.

Mr. Mainerich died on May 28th 2001 at 97 years of age. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, Minnesota.
