John T. Jensen

John T. Jensen entered the Naval Reserve July 24, 1943.

Commissioned Lieutenant and served as a deck officer in the European and Pacific Theaters.

"Battle of Normandy, D-Day-brought in a wave of small boats (LCVPs - Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel) to Omaha (Red) Beach with U.S. Marines in the second wave. My boat hit an underwater mine so I spent the afternoon and evening on the beach and all my Marines were safely ashore.

"Had a 30 day leave in the States, then sent to the Pacific, which included three landings in the Philippines followed by numerous landings on most islands from the Philippines all the way up to Japan. I had a great small boat crew of five men who I loved dearly. I was sent back to the States in December 1945 and discharged in February 1946."

"I stayed active in the Reserve 27 years and am now retired on Navy pay as a Captain and living in San Jose, California. I feel very gratedful for a full live and continuous good health."
