TELICH, Joseph Frank

Joseph Frank Telich was born in September 16 1922 in Ely, Minnesota. He is the son of Frank and Jennie Telich.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II, beginning on December of 1942.

Mr. Telich was with the 10th Amphibious Tractor Battalion, 4th Marine Division in the Pacific Theater and he rose to the rank of Sergeant.

He was awarded the Purple Heart and Humanitarian Service Medal.

SGT. Telich was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps on December 7th 1945.

After the war, he met Florence Zitko in Cleveland at a "Minnesota Gopher Club". They fell in love, married in 1949 and in 1955 moved back to Ely and raised a family.

Mr. Telich died on December 11th 2018 at the age of 96. He is buried at the Ely Cemetery in Ely, Minnesota

  • Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands 19 Feb 45 – 21 Feb 45.”
