Joseph M. Tonko

Joseph M. Tonko was inducted into the Army Air Corps on August 4, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Eveleth, Minnesota.

Mr. Tonko served as a Technical Sergeant and aerial gunner in the Air Offensive over Burma in China-Burma-India Theater. He was wounded in action on September 11, 1943.

He was awarded the following: Purple Heart, Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, AirCrew Badge, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, and World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Tonko was honoralby discharged on October 21, 1945, at Sioux Falls AFB, South Dakota.
