Kenneth Douglas Matheson

Kenneth Douglas Matheson served in World War II in the Pacific Theater. He joined the U.S Marine Corps on March 14, 1944 and was later promoted to Lance Corporal.

Mr. Matheson was wounded in action while serving on Okinawa and later participated with the Occupation Forces in northern China. He was discharged on April 15, 1946.

Mr. Matheson was decorated with the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Expert Rifle Badge.

Mr. Matheson was born in 1917 to John H. and Camille M. Matheson. He graduated from Central High School in 1936.

“Served in Okinawa and north China as part of the occupation forces. They were assigning as many as 100 prisoners a day.

“Wounded in action at Okinawa.

“He has typically not said a lot about his experience but he did say it was a powerful and life-changing experience.”
