Lambert W. Fyhrie

Lambert W. Fyhrie was inducted into the Army February 24, 1941, Fort Snelling, Minnesota.

He served as a Sergeant and combat medical corpsman with the Third Infantry Division in the European Theater in Algeria and Tunisia, North Africa; and Anzio, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, and Rome-Arno, Italy.

He made amphibious lands on D-Day Fedala, French Morocco; D-Day Sicily; D-plus-seven Salerno, Italy; and D-Day Anzio, Italy.

"The Third Infantry Division fought in 10 World War II campaigns, from Casablanca, North Africa, to Berchtesgaden, Germany, and suffered the highest casualty loss of all U.S. Army and Marine combat divisions.On May 23, 1944, in the break out from Anzio in the drive to liberate Rome, the Third Division suffered 995 casualties-the largest one-day loss of any Army or Marine Division in World War II."

Mr. Fyhrie was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Medical Badge, American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with six bronze battle stars and four bronze arrowheads (for assault landings), World War II Victory Medal and French Fourragere

He was honorably discharged July 7, 1945, Camp Maxey, Texas.
