Mr. Andree served before and during World War II.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Andree was inducted into the Army on March 12,1941.

He was a Master Sergeant and trained with the 14th Field Artillery Battalion until Dec. 7, 1945. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the battalion was set up near Long Beach, California, to detect any enemy attacks on the West Coast.

He next joined the 17th Field Artillery Observation Battalion, which built the permanent artillery range north of Yakima, Washington. He was then sent to Fort Riley, Kansas, in the new 288th Field Artillery Observation Battalion, and then to maneuvers in the California desert. He was then assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, to the new 293rd Field Artillery Observation Battalion.

He shipped out for Europe from Camp Shanks, New York, in February 1945, landing at LaHavre, France, with the 12th Army. His first duty was to surround the remaining submarine pens on the French coast, which would soon surrender, and to guard confiscated weapons, ammunition, and equipment left behind after the German surrender. He then returned to the U.S. The atom bomb ended the war before his unit could be shipped to the Pacific Theater.
