Louis House

Louis House of Duluth, Minnesota, enlisted in the Naval Reserve on July 3, 1942.

He served as an Aviation Machinist's Mate 1st Class, hydraulics specialist, plane captain and flight crew member with the bomb squadron VB-144 in the Pacific Theater.

"Our planes were Lockheed PV-1 twin-engine land-based bombers. After bombing and gunnery training in California we went to Kaneohe Bay NAS in Hawaii. Then off to the Gilbert and Marshall Islands for 85 missions of bombing and strafing, photo recon and submarine patrol. Tarawa, Majuro, Roi, Kwajalein and Eniwetok islands were some of our bases. As a streamlined squadron ready to advance on short notice, all our ground support was supplied by personnel wherever we went."

Mr. House was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

"Back home to the good old USA and Glenview NAS, Ill., as hydraulics shop supervisor until discharge" October 6, 1945 at Great Lakes, Ill.
