POLITANO, Louis Philip

Louis Phillip Politano was born on June 18th 1919 to Pasquale & Celia [DiMatteo] Politano in Kitzville, Minnesota.

Mr. Politano was inducted into the U.S. Army on March 29th 1942, at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.

He served as a welder with the 358th Infantry Service Company of Headquarters and Service Troop in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He rose to the Technician 4th Grade (TEC4)

TEC Politano earned the following merits for his service:

  • Bronze Star Medal,
  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • Combat Infantryman Badge,
  • European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 bronze battle stars and Bronze Arrowhead,
  • World War II Victory Medal,  -and-
  • three overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged October 24th 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and married Mary Magdalene [Cimermancic] and they started a family.

Mr. Politano died on June 30th 1993 at 74 years of age. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
